How do you care for your knives?

To keep your knife set in tip-top shape for as long as possible (ideally for a lifetime), it's important to hone and sharpen each knife regularly, wash them properly and dry them immediately after washing. While some manufacturers claim their knives are dishwasher safe, we always recommend hand washing your knives to ensure their longevity. A little soap, warm water and a non-abrasive sponge/cloth is all you need. Also, you should always make sure you're cutting your food on wooden cutting boards.

How many knives do you really need?

This depends on your needs and cooking style! Some folks only need three knives - a chef's knife, a paring knife, and a serrated knife - while others cannot imagine functioning without at least 10 knives in their kitchen. Regardless of what and how often you cook, we recommend getting a set of at least three knives.

Where should I store my kitchen knives?

Ideally, in the block or stand the knives come in. If you don't have a knife block or stand and cannot afford to purchase one at the moment, we recommend getting sheaths or blade guards for your knives. The last thing you want is to keep your knives loose in a drawer.

How often should knives be sharpened?

Most experts recommend sharpening your knives every few months, depending on how often you use them. However, to keep a straight edge on your knives, you should hone them after every two to three uses. It's also recommended that you have your knives professionally sharpened once a year.

Should you wash a knife after sharpening?

To remove any excess metal shavings after sharpening your knife, you can quickly rinse it and then immediately dry it with a soft towel. Make sure you thoroughly dry your knife after rinsing!
