With two-thirds of all American men showing visible signs of hair thinning and receding by 35, you’re certainly not alone here. There’s no need to enter panic mode just yet.

Of course, prevention is always better than a solution, so, in this post, we’re sharing the best tips to prevent and stop a receding hairline. It’s worth mentioning that short visiting a hair loss specialist for some cosmetic work there’s not much you can do to reverse the effects, but these top tips will help to put a stop it as well as disguising them.

Try To Lower Your DHT Levels

While male baldness is a result of a combination of genetics and hormones, the main culprit is more often than not DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which is a by-product of testosterone. Simply put, DHT plays a part in binding to the receptors in your scalp, eventually causing the hair follicles to shrink and stop growing over time. One of the simplest ways to control your DHT levels and stop balding is to use medicines. However, you should seek the advice of a professional before doing so.

Revaluate Your Nutrition Plan

Your diet can play a part in a receding hairline, as it could well be caused a nutrient deficiency. A lack of essentials minerals such as zinc, iron and fatty acids can be linked to hair loss and brittle hair. If you suspect this might be the culprit behind your hair loss, you should get a blood test to determine these levels. If you’ve found you have low levels of these essentials, you should work with a dietitian to create a diet plan that is high in both iron and protein. If you’d rather not spend out too much, you can always start by popping a multivitamin each day to keep your levels in check.

Avoid Blow-Drying Your Hair

Not only will frequent blow-drying lead to dry hair, but it will also make it more brittle and increasingly prone to breakage. On top of that, heat can also open up the hair follicles, which can often make it easier to fall it out. So, if your hairline is playing on your mind, you should let your hair dry naturally and avoid brushing it while wet.

Think Twice About Coloring Your Hair

Even when it’s done by a professional, coloring your hair can lead to hair loss, particularly if you’re using bleach. While bleach can often be more damaging, even going darker can contribute to hair loss because of the peroxide in the product. It’s worth mentioning that if you are dying your hair darker, it does add pigment to the hair rather than stripping it. However, if you’re concerned about it contributing to hair loss, be sure to consult your hairdresser before taking the plunge.

Ditch The Fags

Everyone knows that smoking is no good for you but are you aware that it can also cause premature greying as well as accelerating hair loss? Granted, giving up smoking isn’t the easiest thing to do. But, if there’s a motivator to spur you on, keeping your hair should definitely be one!

Treat Yourself To A Massage

Not only is a little bit of self-care good for relieving stress, but regular massages can also help to thicken your hair overtime. By stimulating blood flow through a massage, hair thickness can be increased. There are studies to prove it!

Stress Less

We touched on stress above, so, it’s only right this makes the list. We get it, stressing less is much easier said than done. However, being stressed can disrupt the natural growth cycle of your hair, eventually causing balding. If you believe this is why you’re suffering from hair loss, try meditation, yoga or a hobby that works to calm your nerves. This isn’t a quick fix, so you should stick at it for at least three months before you expect to see any results.

Turn To Regaine

Although there is a sea of treatments for hair loss on the market right now, Regaine is actually the only over-the-counter treatment that has been clinically proven to treat hereditary hair loss. So, despite false claims from all the other options on the market, if you’re going to invest in just one treatment, let it be regaine. Regain contains an active ingredient called minoxidil, which works to increase the blood flow around hair follicles which stimulate and prolong hair growth. While it sounds pretty good, you should be aware that it doesn’t work for everyone. Regaine have suggested that if you fail to results after using their Extra Strength Foam regularly for 16 weeks, you should give up the treatment.
