Upcoming Games of 2019/2020

You’ve got your gaming setup finally completed. Your gaming chair perfectly positioned, your mini fridge is fully stocked and within reach, and people know not to disturb you. Gamers already have a solid log of games they are itching to play, but there are always new titles on the horizon that gets their finger twitching. It’s likely you are one of these gamers, so to throw your gaming schedule even further out of whack, here are the best upcoming games of 2019/2020. Sorry.

Cyberpunk 2077

When Keanu Reeves stepped out onto the stage at E3 earlier this year, it made Cyberpunk 2077 arguably the most anticipated game being released in the next 12 months. Adapted from a board game released in 1988 (Cyberpunk 2020), it puts you in the shoes of a mercenary called V, who is customizable to match your look.

Set in Night City with an open world design and 6 regions to explore, it’s a first-person perspective and you can explore skills including hacking, working with machinery and battle with weapons or close-combat melee.

Platform: PS 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Google Stadia

Release Date: 16 April 2020

Gears 5

In Gears 5, you play as Kait Diaz working to uncover the history of the Locusts and your family and it begins with you, (the Gears 4 protagonist), and others traveling to Azura to relaunch a Hammer of Dawn satellite to re-up the network. From here, you travel to Outsider villages and mountains, among others before the games explosive and heartbreaking climax.

We’ll not ruin it for you, but fans of the series will find a lot to love, and with 3-player local split screen and online co-op capabilities, the fun doesn’t just end with the main story.

Platform: Xbox One, Microsoft Windows

Release Date: 6 September 2019

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare

A soft reboot of the Modern Warfare series, this takes place in a modern setting and challenges the player’s moral compass and tactical thinking skills to create an immersive experience that really makes you think.

Where it really shines, though, is the multi-player modes, with massive arenas and cross-platform compatibility to ensure you and your buddies can all be part of the fun regardless of your preferred console. However, there’s no Zombies mode so fans of that may be disappointed.

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows

Release Date: 25 October 2019

call of duty: modern warfare

Watch Dogs: Legion

Set in a fictionalized London, Watch Dogs: Legion is a third-person role player that targets an authoritarian regime. Throughout, you recruit new members to help liberate the city as part of the DedSec resistance.

What makes Legion exciting is the depth of the characters, all possessing their own skill set, personality and backstory for a more realistic experience. Players will find it’s less like playing a video game, and more like experiencing a thriller where you are the director.

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Google Stadia

Release Date: 6 March 2020

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

With the final installment of the new trilogy out later this year, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order comes at a perfect time. You play as escaped Cel Kestis, having survived the Jedi Purge at the end of Revenge of the Sith, and need to evade the new Galactic Empire.

It’s a single player game, and throughout you will encounter familiar Star Wars characters and explore new, unique, and exciting worlds that add not only to the gameplay, but to the Star Wars lore. A real treat for Star Wars fans.

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows

Release Date: 15 November 2019

star wars jedi: fallen order

The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds is a Bioshock-esque game set in an alternate 1901 where supercorporations dictate society and have colonized planets. The player wakes up in one ship sent to colonize a far-off world, but find themselves the only one to come out of cryosleep.

From here, it’s an adventure to get to the bottom of what these corporations are really up to, and with character creation, companions, and varied combat situations, you’ll really feel you’ve been transported to another world.

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch

Release Date: 25 October 2019 (Switch TBA)

Need For Speed: Heat

Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the franchise, Heat is set in an open world Palm City and includes sanctioned races by day with illegal street races by night with in-game cash rewards for new cars and upgrades.

There are 127 cars across 33 brands, and players can also make use of DLC through micro-transactions to speed up their progress.

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows

Release Date: 8 November 2019

need for speed: heat

Minecraft Dungeons

Taking away everything you love about Minecraft, Dungeons offers no building, crafting or destroying, and instead has you traverse dungeons, fight monsters, overcome traps and puzzles, and discover treasure.

However, like the Minecraft you love, it’s still great to play with friends, and it’s likely you’ll lose hours to the game exploring what’s around the corner.

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch

Release Date: 2020

Halo Infinite

Master Chief is back and in Halo Infinite, you’ll get to know a little more about who he is under the helmet. There’s not a lot of information about it,  but the E3 trailer suggested the game takes place on a Halo Ring, although this is all we really know.

Splitscreen is back, so you can relive your Halo 3 days with your buddies, and despite not knowing much, it could easily be the best installment yet.

Platform: Xbox One, Microsoft Windows

Release Date: 2020

Destroy All Humans!

The remake of the 2005 game boasts improved graphics and all the fun you remember from 15 years ago. Playing as Cryptosporidium 137, you harvest human DNA (for possibly nefarious purposes) and can enjoy using your Zap-O-Matic and Anal Probe, along with a flying saucer complete with Death Ray to defeat the enemy, um, us. There are 6 sandbox locations, and heaps of challenges to make this silly game something to look forward to.

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows

Release Date: Early 2020
