Seiji has been deeply involved with gear his entire adult life. Beginning with bicycle racing, then backpacking and climbing, and finally motorsports. He has participated in each sport at a high level and has worked in related product development, culminating in three U.S. design patents for exercise-related products.
Seiji's editorial history includes lengthy stints as a testing contributor and editor to Gear Junkie and other outdoor and sports magazines and sites and has published training and wellness related articles spanning a wide array of active endeavors. He also contributes to two-wheeled motorsports publications as a gear reviewer and adventure journalist.
Seiji also acts as a brand ambassador for climbing, cycling, outdoor, and motorcycle-related brands such as Edelrid, Dean Titanium Bicycles, and Konflict Motorsports. He is also an ambassador for an adventure van company, VanDoIt, and has home-built 4 x 4 overlanding rigs. He has also mechanically modified and maintained a sizeable stable of motorcycles and bicycles his entire adult life.
Seiji has founded, operated, and sold two fitness and wellness related businesses in the Austin, TX area: a personal training studio and a CrossFit facility. He also managed a restaurant and bar throughout most of his ten-year college experience.
Seiji graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Kinesiology degree and quickly became a busy American College of Sportsmedicine certified personal trainer. He currently trains and coaches sport climbers, boulderers, alpinists, and mountaineers. He also coaches elite amateur and professional motocross and supercross racers, aiding in over 60 amateur national championships and a professional world championship in a training career that spans 25 years. Seiji writes training and wellness related editorials on specialized sites for each sport.
Seiji lives in the woods in Wimberley, Texas, on a wildlife refuge where he shares his home with a dog and cat and raises his seven-year-old daughter Sequoia. His free and work time morph into each other, as all his outdoor and motorsports-related pursuits naturally involve testing.
