Grado Labs Prestige Series SR 225X headphones

It’s been a long time since headphones were considered an item that someone wouldn’t have in their pocket, purse, backpack, or briefcase at any given moment. Options range from the familiar Apple AirPods to Beats By Dre, or any number of brand-spanking-new, top-of-the-line listening devices.

But, as with all things, it’s tough to beat a classic; especially one that performs exceptionally well, like the Grado Labs Prestige Series SR 225X. These headphones combine an old-school, timeless style — hand-built in Brooklyn — with state-of-the-art mechanics that ensure no note goes unheard.

The latest updates to Grado’s lineup include new tech that can bring out more tones and textures than ever before. And the SR 225X’s looks will fit in just as well at a coffee shop as at a recording studio.

SR 225X: The basics

Grado Labs has been building audio equipment since the 1950s, producing handmade products in Brooklyn. Now, Grado’s 6+ decades of experience have culminated in the SR 225X, the latest and greatest of its offerings.

The SR 225X incorporates an F cushion to enhance sound and dial into more tones, along with fourth-generation Grado drivers with beefed-up magnetic circuits. Efficiency improvements include a voice coil with decreased mass and a reconfigured diaphragm.

Aside from the speakers themselves, the headphones ship with a durable 8 conductor cable, and a headband with added padding for a more comfortable feel.
