The rumors are true: Lexus’s iconic LFA supercar is getting a revival and a serious makeover as it’s reported to come back as an electric vehicle, the Lexus Electrified Sport.

The original LFA, a two-seat sports car from the early 2010s, was widely regarded as one of the best-sounding road cars ever built. Even so, the company manufactured only 500 models in total. While their original price was $350,000, today, models in top condition are known to reach more than $1 million.

The Features

Lexus has not revealed many details about the anticipated model. What we know so far is that the Lexus Electrified Sport is to a great extent inspired by the Lexus LFA supercar. The design is sleek and elegant: the sports car inspiration is conspicuous. The most dramatic feature is a reverse Z shape on the side of the vehicle: it begins at the base of the front wheel arch and ends at the rear pillar, and it features vents at both ends.

The new supercar promises to keep a unique driving performance of a Lexus with the acceleration time in the low 2-second range and cruising range over 700 km.

The Battery

The new vehicle is reportedly going to use solid-state batteries that Toyota is currently working on. This innovative solution should be superior to the current EV batteries: they are expected to be safer, more durable, and more energy-dense.

The main benefit of these high-performance batteries is that you should be able to get more range out of the same size battery pack. This means the car manufacturers would be able to either add range to current electric vehicles or keep the same range and reduce the weight of the vehicle. Another potential benefit of solid-state batteries is that they should be able to charge significantly more quickly than the batteries currently on the market.

The Production

The production of the LFA modernized could take a while. Lexus plans to present its first EV, the RZ 450e, later this year. The company is set to become an electric-only brand by 2030 in Europe, U.S., and China.

The icon redesigned will be an exciting next step in the evolution of the automobile brought on by electrification and it will be a token of the company’s commitment to carbon neutrality and wider sustainability.
