Occam’s Razor states that the simplest answer to any problem is usually the best. Snow Peak delivers on that principle with its new Takibi Solo firepit. The triangular device concentrates heat where you need it, and its portability makes it a no-brainer when packing.

Snow Peak Takibi = Function First
The Takibi Solo’s small stainless steel appliance facilitates an open flame in its central pit. Above, the brand’s Grill and Plate set (sold separately) mounts for a dual cooking surface. Below, a tray catches drips and ash.
When you’re done, the whole rig folds up into a flat rectangle that’s about a foot wide by a foot and a half long. Snow Peak recommends hosing it down after letting it cool. Snow Peak ships the Takibi Solo in a tote-style bag. The total weight is 9.5 lbs.
Analysis and Utility
My favorite thing about the Takibi Solo is its shape. The triangular, folding build makes a lot of sense for both heating utility and transport.
Because of the shape, the unit’s pit is bigger than the Grill and Plate (if equipped). The size difference should help users heat the entire cooking surface evenly. And because the catch plate is bigger than the pit, it should catch most errant ash and drips.
The Grill and Plate kit would be a nice inclusion from Snow Peak, but the Takibi Solo makes sense without them. As a fire pit alone, it scans for road trips, camping patio nights, or — perhaps most helpful of all — romantic rendezvous.
Pricing
Snow Peak makes the simplistic, portable Takibi Solo available for $140 MSRP. Equip the modular Grill and Plate set for an extra $71 MSRP.
