NOMAD Grills™ – Part Grill, Part Smoker, Entirely Portable

True masters of the grill know this: charcoal grills are superior to gas. Maybe it’s the soft, radiating heat. Maybe it’s the smoke. Maybe it’s the skill required: the time, the patience, the limited options for controlling the flame. In all likelihood, it’s all of the above, plus the street cred that comes from searing a perfect burger on gently glowing coals. But portability — ah, now that’s always been an area where gas grills, especially those aimed at tailgaters and picnickers, have the advantage. Not anymore, thanks to the NOMAD Grill and Smoker – a lightweight and portable charcoal grill that offers both durability and versatility.

Grill, Meet Science

Yeah, we know. There are already a few portable charcoal grills out there. Let’s take a look at what sets the NOMAD apart.

First of all, the NOMAD charcoal grill takes advantage of a technology called SurfaceSafe™ to safely diffuse heat, meaning you can set it on all kinds of delicate surfaces while you grill – plastic card tables (a longstanding tailgating must-have) included.

The next interesting little technological grill advancement is the stainless steel domed grates. Stainless steel has the strength-to-weight ratio you want in a grill grate and will hold up well to corrosion and the wear-and-tear you can expect from a season that extends well into the playoffs. But it’s the domed shape that really stands out. Not only does the dome grate provide extra charcoal clearance (you want your food close to the coals, but not TOO close!), but it also provides extra strength and warp resistance. Did you know that the dome is one of architecture’s strongest shapes? Now you do! Come for the grill write-up, stay for the architecture lessons.

Grill, Meet Meat

Earlier, we mentioned the lack of flame control inherent in the medium of charcoal grills. You can take charge with the NOAMD’s handy vent slider at the bottom of the unit. This vent control helps you manage the heat and the cooking speed so you can sear or slow cook your chosen treat to your heart’s content. You can also slide it all the way closed to dampen the fire and prevent ashes from escaping while you transport your NOMAD charcoal grill back home from the game.

Speaking of transport, a portable charcoal grill wouldn’t be a portable charcoal grill without a handle, and the NOMAD has a good one. The handle is ergonomically shaped and ruggedly built for all-day comfort and long-lasting performance — no matter how far you have to lug it.

Every aluminum surface on the NOMAD charcoal grill is anodized for superior rust and corrosion resistance. A built-in thermometer helps you dial in those final few moments on the grill – that’s a pro move.

The Buy

The NOMAD charcoal grill offers 425 inches of grilling space in a 28-pound package; not bad at all! According to NOMAD’s website, you can get 30 burgers on this puppy at a time. Check it out at nomadgrills.com for $599.
