Back in 1989, Playmate introduced KoolTunes, a distinctive pink-and-teal cooler and boombox in one. Now, Igloo is bringing the KoolTunes Playmate classic back, but this time the cooler comes equipped with the latest Bluetooth connectivity.

With the same look as the original cooler, the new KoolTunes drips with the 90s coolness. But is it worth $150? Let’s see what this retro-inspired speaker-equipped cooler brings to the table.

Igloo KoolTunes Cooler Features

  • Bluetooth 5.0 wireless pairing tech
  • Two 5-watt speakers with passive radiators
  • THERMECOOL foam, a form of eco-friendly insulation
  • Houses up to 26 12-oz cans
  • IP56-rated water- & dust-resistant design
  • Rechargeable battery & up to 10 hours of playtime on a single charge

A Modern Cooler With A Retro Look

Modeled after the original KoolTunes, the new-and-improved cooler maintains its ancestor’s unique ‘90s style, but is now, of course, equipped with the latest technology. This includes Bluetooth connectivity that allows you to stream your favorite tunes from your smartphone no matter where you are, and a weather-resistant exterior that makes it perfect for beach parties, kayaking, and other outdoor adventures.

Its two low-profile 5-watt speakers are completely self-contained, meaning they don’t take any precious space from the cooler. More importantly, they deliver good audio quality with punchy bass and dynamic frequency response range of 80Hz-20kHz. The speaker is also surprisingly loud for its size.

The control panel is on the other side of the speaker and it includes an LED status indicator, charging port and power, Bluetooth pairing and volume buttons. With a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, KoolTunes delivers up to 10 hours of playtime on a single charge.

But what about the “kool” part? The KoolTunes cooler boasts THERMECOOL foam, which is a form of cleaner, more eco-friendly insulation that still keeps drinks and snacks cool for hours. The secure lid helps prevent spills, and opens to either side of the cooler for easy access to the tasty contents. As for the storage space, this retro-inspired cooler/boombox has a 14-quart interior that can hold up to 26 standard 12-ounce cans, which is plenty for a beach day with friends and family.

The Buy

Love that ‘90s nostalgia? Now you can get it for $149.99 at Igloo.
