Packing a Carry-on for Long Flights
Packing a bag for a long trip could sometimes be stressful. Whether you’re going to visit family or explore a new country, getting your packing technique right is essential. It is so easy to find yourself staring at your carry on bag and the amount of stuff you want to take with you and wondering, ‘how am I to fit it all inside?’ This is where you might need some help, and once you run through these sure-fire trips, you will find yourself packing luggage like a pro.
First Things First
A carry on bag is usually a container that an airline will let you have with you on the plane. They typically measure about 22” x 14” x 9,” and it is vital to choose an airline that doesn’t charge for baggage. With that said, let’s look at our travel tips.
This might seem so apparent to some, but sometimes, we need to hear it again and again. You need to note that, more often than not, as human beings, we tend to think we need more than we actually do. So before you go on a trip, put out all the things you’d like to pack with you. Then cut the load by half and proceed to pack that. You would be surprised at just how much easier packing would be if you can just follow the steps.
Pack Versatile Clothes
You might be tempted to pack that lovely shirt with all the fancy designs or the super stylish dress that accentuates your assets. This in itself isn’t a bad thing; however, it could be problematic if these ‘luxury’ clothes take up more space than you need it to. You’re better off packing the more non-descript shirt or dress that can be used more than once during your trip.
Also, try to mix and match. A pair of black chinos goes really well with multiple shirts, and it isn’t evident that you’re wearing the same pair of pants in a picture. You can do that and also go for other types of clothing that can easily be paired with other items. This way, with three items, you can get three looks, and this helps you save space. If you have an event wherever you’re traveling, you can always go shopping there and get what you want.
The 1-6 Rule
If you look through different hacks for traveling and packing, you might have come across the 1-6 rule. It is a simple rule that allows you to pack essentials while helping you avoid stress and also keeping it light. According to the 1-6 rule, you need to pack one hat, two pairs of shoes, three pairs of pants, four shirts, five pairs of socks, six pairs of underwear. Amazing right?
With this, you can easily have all your essentials on you while also packing light. You can tweak this list; for instance, you can decide to make do with only one pair of shoes, and with the ones you wear to the airport, that makes two. You could also cut down to two pairs of pants and take a hoodie instead. You can modify it as you please, but always make sure the number of items remains the same.
Save Space With Packing Techniques
You might follow the 1-6 rule and find that you still can’t fit all your items into your bag. If this is the case, odds are you have a tiny bag, or you’re packing very inefficiently. When packing, there are various ways you can place your clothing items into your bag that saves space. Use one of these techniques to create enough space to fit all your load into the container properly. The most common method is the rolling technique. With this style, you roll up each item of clothing till it looks like a burrito, and then you gently place it into the bag. This saves up more space than regular folding does.
Use Your Gadgets
When traveling on long haul flights, the temptation is to take a good book, perhaps a Nintendo switch to pass the time or even your laptop. This is unnecessary as one or two gadgets can handle most of these tasks. You can easily download a book reader app on your phone and a few games also to keep yourself company. This way, the space taken up by a rather large book can be used for another essential.
Follow The Rules
Before going on any flight, always check what the rules are. These include the size for carry-on luggage, forbidden items, and so on. Check to make sure you aren’t carrying anything that can be deemed contraband. If you need the information as to what is allowed or isn’t, you can simply check the website for your flight of choice.
Now you’re ready to travel. Have a safe journey.
