The G-Steel GSTS130BC-1A is a G-Shock like no other G-Shocks you’ve seen before or perhaps even worn before. It still retains that now-iconic bulk that bespeaks of the rugged design, sturdy construction, and precision craftsmanship of all G-Shock sportwatches. What you’ll find in the Steel series of the venerable brand is an even more serious take on what it needs to thrive in the harshest of conditions without losing track of Father Time.
Three layers of super-strong and highly wear-resistant materials form the band of the G-Steel. Sandwiched by heavy-duty tough leather intended primarily for doing the toughest work known to man is a resin core that gives the G-Steel band amazing structural soundness while allowing for improved flexibility as it wraps around and hugs the wrist ever so snuggly. Covering the resin and leather combination if Cordura fabric, a material that is even tougher and stronger than nylon that militaries all over the world are now shifting the construction of their gears to use this material.
The bezel of the GSTS130BC-1A is dutifully constructed of urethane complete with horizontal lines that are reminiscent of the impressions made by a hand tool that recently gripped the surface. It may not be a mechanical watch, but the G-Steel series does run on solar energy which should make it quite appealing to those who are more into green technology.
Like all G-Shocks, the G-Steel is built to withstand shocks, drops, and whatever abuse one may want to try on its dial. It is not a diver’s watch but it is water-resistant up to depths of 200 meters. The double LED light makes reading time in the dark exceptionally easy. One is for the face of the G-Steel complete with selectable duration of illumination, afterglow effects, and neon illumination.
The G-Steel GSTS130BC-1A is no ordinary G-Shock. It’s a beefier version.
