Swatch Sistem51 Mechanical Watch
When we think mechanical watches, the first things that come to mind are fancy, expensive watches from the big brands, yet Swatch’s first dive into the market threatens to upstage them (if only in ambition). Typically Swatch, this plastic-laden timepiece features the world’s first mechanical movement assembled entirely by machines, a feat that’s easier conceived than applied and made possible in part by the watch’s simple 51-component movement. It’s also got 90 hours of power reserve, a clear rear display that looks into the movement, service-free operation, a purported daily accuracy of +/- 5 seconds, and a bright future, even if you don’t appreciate its homage to the Copernican revolution.
