OLO Smartphone 3D Printer
Hands down, this is the 3D printer for the frugal. But its price, and a surprisingly decent resolution of 36 to 42 microns, isn’t the only thing that makes the OLO Smartphone 3D Printer unique. Instead of standard extruders on 3-axis servo-controlled arms, OLO leverages your smartphone not only to select the model to print but as the printer itself. Proprietary Daylight Resins used as printing material harden when exposed to the light of your smartphone’s screen, working in conjunction with a single-axis base that moves as printing progresses. It’s also highly portable, running on four AA batteries, is effectively noiseless, and works with a variety of resins with different properties and colors. The catch: OLO is relatively slow, printing each layer in about 20 or 30 seconds, and thus a 1-inch tall object in just under two hours.
