The Honeywell MN Series 12,000 BTU portable ac sets the standard in its class for performance, durability and style. It’s a prime example of what skilled engineers and designers can do when they put their mind to it and the best part is that price-wise it’s right in line with its less effective, less attractive competitors. Don’t purchase a portable air conditioner for your mid-sized rooms without giving serious consideration to this gem from Honeywell.
Pros
- 12,000 BTU cooling capacity – The MN series from Honeywell doesn’t mess around. At 12,000 BTUs (one ton of cooling) this portable air conditioning unit eats hot humid environments for breakfast. Roll it into the room you want to cool, take a couple of minutes to hook up the window vent and hose, plug it in and put it to work either using direct input on the control panel or the handy remote. Then kick back and enjoy.
- Effective dehumidifier – The MN 12,000 BTU portable air conditioner is also a 70 pint per day dehumidifier that can create a more livable environment in your home on a humid day without ever having to engage the AC. While 70 pints isn’t ‘industry best’ most experts agree that it’s more than enough in almost all cases and that if you need more capacity then that it’s time to move out of the rainforest.
- Feather touch control – The control panel on this Honeywell portable AC unit is well thought out and smartly designed. If features so-called ‘feather touch’ control that reacts to even the lightest stimulus so you won’t have to be banging down on buttons to get the thing to work. In addition you have the option of controlling the unit via the handy remote control, which is blissfully free of extraneous, confusing buttons.
Cons
- Not the easiest to move about – To be honest we had a difficult time coming up with something negative to say about this particular portable ac unit. But a couple of our reviewers mentioned that the unit could be a bit clumsy to move around and can seem a little top heavy. No doubt part of that is due to the design. But sometimes to make something look great you have to sacrifice a bit of practicality. That said, we’re nit-picking on this to be sure.
