Apple’s new MacBook perpetuates the brand’s obsession with thinness, though it’s admittedly one we share as well. The redesigned MacBook weighs just 2 pounds and measures in at a razor-thin 13.1 millimetres while still featuring a full-sized backlit keyboard, a 12-inch Retina display with a resolution of 2304×1440, a fanless design, and up to 9 hours of battery. Minimal even by MacBook Air standards, the device relies on a single port other than its headphone/optical jack: a USB-C port, which handles charging, USB 3 data transfer, and video output (VGA, HDMI, & Mini DisplayPort) in a form factor that’s one third the size of standard USB ports. It’s also equipped with a brand new Force Touch trackpad, which not only delivers uniform clicks no matter where pressed but also boasts haptic feedback and detects pressure applied in each click to enable new functionality. Plus, perhaps most interesting of all, the MacBook comes in more than just Apple’s standard silver, with gold and space grey added alongside the former.
