While prevention is still the best tool in the fight against diabetes, controlling the disease once it’s already in place may soon be a lot easier thanks to Google’s Smart Lens. While this contact lens doesn’t project a HUD in your line of sight (yet), it does make testing blood sugar more straightforward thanks to miniaturized electronics that sit between two layers of biocompatible lens material. Its sensor quantifies glucose levels in tears once every second, wirelessly beaming the result to a nearby portable device to more accurately detect changes over time while simultaneously eliminating the need for painful finger prick tests entirely.
