Garmin HUD

The dedicated GPS navigation device is a dying breed: smartphone GPS apps offer superior interfaces, are always on us and ready to go, plus cost little or, often, nothing. It comes as little surprise, then, that Garmin’s latest device instead compliments your  smartphone by projecting vital navigation information onto your windshield, HUD-style. Installation involves affixing a transparent film on your windshield then simply placing the device beneath it; your smartphone takes care of the rest, wirelessly beaming navigation info to display turn indicators, lane assist (the  lane you should be in), estimated time of arrival, traffic delays, safety camera locations, and more – though you’ll need to be running one of their apps – Navigon or StreetPilot ($30+) – to actually use it.
