Detroit Electric SP:01
Detroit Electric’s SP:01, officially the world’s fastest production electric car, fills the gap in the market in the market left by the discontinued Tesla Roadster. Powered by a mid-mounted 200bhp electric motor, the awkwardly-named SP:01 hits 62mph in just 3.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 155mph. And, while it’s not targeted towards the frugal, the SP:01’s Lithium Polymer battery charges to full – and on the cheap – in a little over 4 hours using a 240V outlet. Other niceties include all-around LED lamps, a carbon fiber shell, and an advanced smartphone-compatible SAMI infotainment system that controls everything and can even output the battery’s energy back to your house, should you ever need to.
